4 Reasons To Stop Using Menstrual Pads For Urine Leakage
If you are experiencing urinary leakage, you might be tempted to use menstrual pads to guard you from those embarrassing leaks. Don’t do it. Read on:
Menstrual pads are not designed to capture fluid that is leaking quickly. Menstruation is generally a slower leak, so those types of pads are designed for absorbing fluid at a slower pace compared to urine leaks, which occur quickly and sometimes in larger amounts.
Skin protection - menstrual pads do not provide much in terms of “moisture-wicking” technology. Incontinence pads often have a substance that turns the urine into a gel to assist in keeping the skin drier and neutralizing the acidity of the urine. This can help protect the skin of the vulva from breakdown.
Using incontinence pads rather than menstrual pads will also help eliminate odors from urine leaks. When the urine is neutralized in the gel substance of incontinence pads it will help avoid smells that would occur with urine leakage with menstrual pads.
Urine leakage is common - but it is NOT normal. See a pelvic floor physical therapist! They are specially trained to help find the causes of your leakage and work with you to correct these issues!! Stop buying expensive pads (incontinence or menstrual pads!) to address your leakage, instead work with a pelvic floor physical therapist to stop the leakage once and for all. Invest in yourself and gain confidence in your body and take control of your bladder!
